Is the TNRD Library the only library in British Columbia using Evergreen?
Will I still be able to get materials from other TNRD Libraries and through Interlibrary Loan?
How will I be notified of overdue items or holds that are ready for pickup?
What
is Evergreen?
Evergreen is an open source catalogue
system, which means that there is no charge to the TNRD Library
System to download and use the software. It was originally developed
for and is in use at 275 libraries in Georgia. TNRD Library patrons
will use Evergreen to access the catalogue and their account
information. Evergreen will also be used when a patron checks out
material from the Library.

Why
is the TNRD Library switching to Evergreen?
As part of the BC Libraries Cooperative, the
TNRD Library System is one of the first multi-branch library
systems in BC to switch to the new open source Evergreen Library
System. We made the switch to Evergreen because it will result in long
term cost savings and we will be better able to meet our patrons' current and
future needs.

What
are some of the new features of Evergreen?
Many features
are familiar to those who regularly use the Internet.
If you search for something but have accidentally misspelled a word, Evergreen will offer alternatives to your search.
You can create Virtual Book Bags that you can share with others. You could create a list of suggested titles for your reading club and share it. You can keep a book bag of books you would like to read . . . or create a book bag of your favorite gardening books.
Suspending holds will allow you to pause your holds if you go away on vacation. In your hold list, just enter the start and end date. You will not lose your place in the queue. And if you reach the top of the list while away, the item will be ready for you soon after you return.
Shelf Browser is a feature that allows you to quickly see what else is shelved near items in your search. Maybe you'll find something else that interests you--or see that we own it, but it is out--and place a hold on it.
Google Preview allows you to take a look at the book's table of contents and index to see if the title meets your needs.

Is the TNRD Library
the only library in British Columbia using Evergreen?
No.
The TNRD Library is currently working with the BC Libraries
Cooperative in moving most of the Province's library catalogues to
Evergreen. We were the twenty-fifth BC library to come onboard, and
the first large, multi-branch system.

Will I still be able to get materials from
other TNRD Library branches and through Interlibrary Loan?
Yes.
You can still use your library card to check out or request materials
from any TNRD Library. Interlibrary loan requests from other
libraries for things we don't have in our system will still be
available.

Is there someone available to help me
if I need it?
Of course! Staff will ensure. Staff are more than
happy to give you a brief tour and introduction to the system.

May I
access my account information online?
Yes.
You will notice some enhanced features with your account information,
including being able to select the number of search results per page,
choose how you want to be notified for each hold, and update your own
email address if it changes. You will also have the ability to
suspend your holds if you will be unavailable for a period of time,
but still keep your place in line for the hold.
Another new
feature is creating a user name for your account so you won't have to
enter your library card number each time you access it. If you are
having any problems at all logging into the Online Catalogue, please
read this first.

How will I be notified of overdue items or
holds that are ready for pickup?
You can be notified by
e-mail and telephone. Email notices are sent for holds ready to pick up, courtesy notices to warn you items are coming due, and overdue notices. Or you may choose to receive your hold
notice from our automated phone robot.
